mother and father reminisce about Hong Kong / we don’t talk about patrick

For 'Fireworks' at China Heights Gallery, Sydney. Curated by Con Gerakaris.

A pair of works that utilise strategies of refusal and trickery as a method of disruption in the white imagination.

mother and father reminisce about Hong Kong is a video work where I document myself cleaning old photo slides from my father’s collection. The audio features my mother and father having a conversation. Installed behind a thick acrylic sheet, a clear image is obfuscated. Only those who can speak Cantonese will know the audio’s content.

we don’t talk about patrick is a framed slide that was cleaned during the making of ‘mother and father reminisce about Hong Kong’.

mother and father reminisce about Hong Kong and its translated transcript can only be viewed if you tell me about a family feud. Please email ng.johanna@gmail.com to participate.
