I saw a man pissing in the Ooka River… (2025)

This project was made with the support of Koganecho Area Management Centre and Ian Potter Cultural Trust through their Emerging Artist Grants.

I saw a man pissing in the Ooka River… is a photographic typology of discarded objects in the Ooka River. 84 photographs form a portrait of daily consumption habits, revealing a small percentage of the volume of both banal and surprising objects that find their way into the Ooka River. Hanging on the wall is a collection of the artist’s rubbish, revealing her own participation in single-use goods; a minuscule sample of an endless stream of disposable materials. Installed at YUSUI gallery, the work faces the Ooka River itself and the Yusui Spring, a publicly accessible clean water source.

The title refers to a scene the artist witnessed during her first few days of walking along the river. I was too scared to take a photo of that.
