Girl de Hong Kong
Initially a project to fulfil an adolescent fantasy of growing up as a young woman in Hong Kong, Girl de Hong Kong evolved into a discovery of the commonality between the artist and fantasy surrogates found on Instagram. During the process of collecting photos—tracked via geotags of personally significant places in Hong Kong—a shared visual language emerged in both subject and aesthetic. Found photos were paired with kindred pictures taken in Sydney from the artist’s archive, and presented as a unified strip, an endless feed. The final print hangs like a scroll, starting from the roof and ending on the floor; existing on two planes at once.
